Frequently Used Terms

Have you been reading this blog and thinking to yourself, “What does FQLT stand for?” or “Is Holy Order of the Lion some secret society?”  Here is the list you’ve been looking for.

Holy Order of the Lion or HOL: This is our 9am Sunday School for Kindergarten-6th grade.  It is not your traditional Sunday school.  It is a combination of small groups and children’s church wrapped into one.  The kids complete a weekly study with their families called, Bible Quest.  The 2nd-6th grade boys and girls earn punches on a Punch Card to earn armor 3 times a year.

FQLT: This stands for Faith Quest Leadership Team.  This is a team of 5th and 6th grade students who have been selected through an application process to serve as student leaders in our children’s ministries.  They learn about using their gifts and serving the Body and working as a team.

Ministry Partner: This is a term I use to refer to the people that serve in children’s ministries.  Whether they work in the nursery once a month or serve as a Sunday school teacher each week, I consider them a partner in ministry.

Red Day or Orange Day: These are days we celebrate the amazing gift of salvation that Jesus has given to us.  The kids are encouraged to invite their unbelieving friends and the Good News of the gospel is shared.  Red Day happens in February, and “Orange You Glad Jesus Loves You?” Day is in October or November.

Bible Quest: This is an weekly Bible study written for elementary school children (Kinder-1st grade or 2nd-6th grade).  They are written by members of our church and edited by our church staff.  They follow the sermon topics preached in adult worship and taught in Holy Order of the Lion.  You study during the week to prepare for the upcoming sermons and lessons.  Bible Quest is designed as a family study and should not be considered “homework” for Sunday school.  They are available for pick-up on Sunday mornings or for download here.

We will continue to add to this page as we get more frequently asked questions.  Please feel free to contact Liz Griggs if you would like to see something added or would like more information.
